Final Project Pitches and Plan

The Coronavirus outbreak has drawn attention around the world; it has globally impacted lives by spreading rapidly. Many countries are trying to slow down the growth of confirmed cases each day. The goal of this project is to compare different regions on the increasing growth of the Coronavirus. What we want to discover in our hypothesis is does social distances have an effect on slowing down the Coronavirus. The project will include data of regions that do not practice social distances and data of regions that do. For example, we look at New York and Boston, these two major cities on the East Coast. Boston has a lower population density and sticker laws regarding social distances. So, by looking at the data information its growth rate is not as high as New York's. We also want to compare different countries as well as British, China, Italy, with their growth of Coronavirus and human activities.

Datasets

  • Coronavirus COVID-19 Cases Data for Worldwide

WHO (World Health Organization)

  • COVID-19 Community Mobility Reports

Gojinogle / Citymapper

  • COVID-19 Global Travel Restrictions and Airline Information

United Nations World Food Programme

Example:

List of Interviews

A person from

  • South Boston Community Health Center, (617) 269-7500

  • Crystal Ansong, a nurse at Saint Francis Hospital

  • Patrick Nkrokye, who has tested positive for the COVID 19

List of Visualization Ideas

  • Comparison charts of the growth of COVID-19 in worldwide

We want to create charts to compare the growth of confirmed cases of COVID19 in China, the US, and European countries especially British and Italy, to find the difference in growth rate and numbers of diagnosed.

  • The changes in community activities before and after the outbreak

We are also thinking about making the charts of mobility changes in different regions and countries, such as Boston, New York, and Wuhan, Especially before and after the closure of cities (we are also collecting the data of different cities’ closure).

  • Maps of how Airlines and Travel Paths Changed

As the travel restrictions begin, population mobility has greatly reduced, and we hope to observe internationally to confirm whether the number of people is related to flight travel restrictions through charts.

Weekly Tasks

In this project, Hope is responsible for pitch, information search, and detailed event background description. Sing is responsible for finding the dataset, providing Visualization Ideas. Ruoyi will assist with this section. Sherry is collecting information on personal interviews about people who are affected by the Coronavirus.
